The Tornado Alley Hash House Harriers are in our 21st year of hashing around the Wichita, KS area.
There are four principles of hashing that TAH3 tries to represent:
To promote physical fitness among our members
To get rid of weekend hangovers
To acquire a good thirst and to satisfy it with beer
To persuade the older members that they are not as old as they feel
The hare will use flour or chalk to mark the trail, while the hounds chase him. The hare will leave various markings (see 'Chalk Talk & Trail' page) to lead the hounds in his general direction, but will also attempt to throw the hounds off of his/her scent by creating false trails and leaving beer in random spots in order to slow them down. While we don't typically make an effort to catch the hare, it has happened from time to time!
At the end of the trail, we meet in a circle for accusations and celebrations, all of which result in a "down down" (drinking your beverage) and singing a vulgar hash song.
But I don't run...
We are a very diverse group. We range from marathoners to individuals that walk the entire trail. You don't have to be an athlete, or even in shape for that matter, to enjoy the trail, friendship, and libations. Trails range between three and five miles, and there is always at least one BN (beer near) along the trail, and a lot more at the end.
